Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayama

The Monkey Park is situated on Mount Iwatayama, across the Katsura River from Arashiyama’s main area. An entrance fee is required, and the visit usually takes about 60 to 90 minutes, including the hike. The uphill walk to the top takes around 20 to 30 minutes. At the summit, visitors can enter an enclosed hut to feed the monkeys safely from inside. Restrooms and basic facilities are available near the top.

The hike to the park involves a steady uphill climb, so comfortable walking shoes are essential. Visitors are asked not to touch the monkeys, stare into their eyes, or eat outside designated areas. Feeding is only allowed inside the feeding hut using approved food. Bring water, especially in summer, as the walk can be warm. The park may close temporarily during severe weather.

From Kyoto Station, take the JR Sagano Line to Saga-Arashiyama Station, then walk about 20 minutes to the park entrance. You can also use the Hankyu Line to Arashiyama Station, which is slightly closer. From the entrance near Togetsukyo Bridge, follow signs for the Monkey Park and begin the uphill trail.
