Fushimi Inari Temple

Fushimi Inari Taisha is one of Kyoto’s most iconic and atmospheric landmarks, famous for its thousands of bright red torii gates that stretch along the forested slopes of Mount Inari. Dedicated to Inari, the Shinto deity of rice, prosperity, and business success, the shrine offers a peaceful yet visually striking experience. Walking through the long tunnels of gates feels almost timeless, with quiet shrines, stone fox statues, and scenic viewpoints appearing along the route. The shrine is open day and night, allowing visitors to enjoy a different atmosphere depending on the time of visit.

Was Sie erwartet

Founded in 711 AD, Fushimi Inari Taisha is the head shrine of more than 30,000 Inari shrines across Japan. Entry is free, and the grounds are open 24 hours a day. The full walk to the summit of Mount Inari and back takes around two to three hours, though many visitors turn back halfway. Small food stalls and souvenir shops are located near the entrance, while the upper trails become quieter and more natural.

Warum diese Tour buchen

Comfortable walking shoes are essential, as the paths include steps and uneven surfaces. The lower section of the shrine can be crowded during the day, especially in peak seasons, but crowds thin out higher up the mountain. Bring water, particularly in summer, as temperatures and humidity can be high. Photography is allowed, but visitors should remain respectful in prayer areas. Facilities are limited once you start climbing, so plan ahead.

Die richtige Tour auswählen

Fushimi Inari Taisha is easy to reach from central Kyoto. From Kyoto Station, take the JR Nara Line to Inari Station; the journey takes about five minutes, and the shrine entrance is directly outside the station. Alternatively, take the Keihan Line to Fushimi-Inari Station and walk for a few minutes. Due to excellent public transport connections, taxis are rarely necessary.
