Jafuta Heritage Centre

The heritage center is located within the Elephant’s Walk Shopping and Artist Village in central Victoria Falls. It is generally open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, aligning with the operating hours of the shopping complex. One of the most attractive features of this site is that admission is free, making it an accessible addition to any travel itinerary. While entry is free, the center is operated by the Jafuta Foundation, a non-profit organization, so small donations or purchases from the adjacent shop are highly appreciated. The facility includes a small library of historical books and comfortable seating areas where you can relax and absorb the local history in a quiet, air-conditioned environment.

The center is small but packed with information, so it is best to visit when you have at least thirty to forty-five minutes to spare. It is famous for housing rare Tonga ndoros—shell-like currency used in trade as far back as the 1600s. The curator is often available to give a brief guided talk on the exhibits, offering personal insights that you won't find in guidebooks. Since the center is located inside a premier shopping village, it is a "no-haggling" zone, ensuring a peaceful browsing experience. Photography is usually permitted, but it is always polite to ask the staff before taking close-up shots of the delicate artifacts. The center is also a great place to learn about the Jafuta Foundation's broader community and wildlife conservation projects.

Because the center is situated inside the Elephant’s Walk Shopping and Artist Village, it is incredibly easy to reach from anywhere in the town center. If you are staying at any of the major hotels like the Victoria Falls Hotel or Ilala Lodge, it is a very short and safe five-minute walk. If you are coming from further out, a local taxi will drop you at the main gate of Elephant’s Walk for a flat rate of about 5 USD. The complex is located on Adam Stander Road, right across from the Kingdom Hotel. Once inside the village, just follow the signs for the museum or ask any of the local shopkeepers, who will be happy to point you toward the entrance tucked behind the central courtyard.
