Victoria Falls Bridge

The Victoria Falls Bridge is an iconic landmark connecting Zimbabwe and Zambia, just downstream from the majestic Victoria Falls. Built in 1905, the steel arch bridge was commissioned by Cecil Rhodes as part of a railway line linking Cape Town to Cairo. Though Rhodes never saw its completion, the bridge remains a testament to early engineering ingenuity. Spanning 198 meters, with a height of 128 meters above the Zambezi River, the bridge offers stunning views of the falls and the Batoka Gorge, making it a favorite spot for visitors. Today, it serves as both a practical crossing point and a hub for adrenaline-filled adventures.

Was Sie erwartet

The Victoria Falls Bridge is accessible from both the Zimbabwean and Zambian sides, as it sits in a no-man’s-land between the two countries. A bridge pass is required to enter the bridge area, but visitors do not need a visa unless crossing the border. It also hosts a range of activities, including bungee jumping, the bridge swing, and zip-lining, attracting thrill-seekers from around the globe.

Warum diese Tour buchen

If you’re planning to visit the Victoria Falls Bridge, wear comfortable shoes and bring a camera to capture the breathtaking scenery. For adventure enthusiasts, bungee jumping off the bridge is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, with a 111-meter free fall. Safety measures are strictly adhered to, and operators are highly experienced. The bridge also offers guided historical tours that delve into its construction, engineering, and role in the region’s colonial history. Check with local authorities about crossing requirements if you’re visiting from one country to the other.

Die richtige Tour auswählen

The bridge is easily accessible from both Victoria Falls town in Zimbabwe and Livingstone in Zambia. From Victoria Falls town, it’s a short 15-minute walk or taxi ride to the Zimbabwean side of the bridge. From Livingstone, taxis and guided tours can take you to the Zambian entrance. Visitors can also walk from one side to the other, but ensure you have the necessary permits or visas if you plan to cross into the opposite country.

Wissenswertes vor der Abreise

The bridge can be visited year-round, but the best time depends on the activities you want to enjoy. The wet season (February to May) offers the most dramatic views of the falls, with the Zambezi River at its fullest and the mist rising high into the sky. The dry season (September to December) provides clearer visibility of the gorge and is better for photography. If you’re there for bungee jumping or other activities, visit during daylight hours to make the most of your experience.
