Victoria Falls Bridge

The Victoria Falls Bridge is a magnificent steel arch structure that spans the deep Batoka Gorge, connecting Zimbabwe and Zambia. Completed in 1905, it was the brainchild of Cecil Rhodes, who envisioned a railway line where passengers could feel the spray of the falls on their faces as they crossed. Today, it stands as a symbol of engineering history and a hub for some of the world's most famous adrenaline sports. Whether you are there to jump off it or simply walk across it,the bridge offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Zambezi River rushing below and the misty rainbows of the falls in the background.

Alles über Victoria Falls Bridge

Was Sie erwartet

The bridge is accessible to pedestrians and vehicles 24 hours a day as of late 2025. While there is no fee to walk onto the bridge for a view, you must pass through the Zimbabwean border post. If you are only visiting the bridge and returning to Zimbabwe, you do not need a visa; simply ask the immigration officers for a bridge pass. For those looking for more than a view, the bridge is home to the Shearwater Bungee center. Most adventure activities operate from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.A small museum on the Zambian side provides historical context and is free for those with a bridge pass.

Warum diese Tour buchen

You must bring your original passport to get past the Zimbabwean immigration gate, even if you do not plan to cross into Zambia. Without it, you will not be allowed into the no-man's-land where the bridge is located. Wear comfortable shoes and a hat, as the bridge can get quite hot under the midday sun. If you are planning to do the bungee jump or bridge swing, be aware that there are strict weight limits, typically between 40kg and 120kg. It is also wise to carry some small US dollar bills for the local curio market located just before the bridge entrance, where craftsmen sell unique copper and wood carvings.

Die richtige Tour auswählen

The bridge is located roughly 1.5 kilometers from Victoria Falls town center. From most central hotels, it is a pleasant 15 to 20 minute walk along a paved path. If you prefer not to walk, a taxi from town will cost approximately 5 USD each way. Many adrenaline activity operators provide free transfers from your hotel if you have booked a jump or slide in advance. For a more nostalgic arrival, you can book the Bamba Tram, which runs from the Victoria Falls station and takes passengers directly onto the bridge for a scenic run, offering a unique and leisurely way to reach this historic landmark.

Wissenswertes vor der Abreise

Morning is the best time to visit if you want to see the rainbows formed by the mist. Between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM, the light is perfect for photography, and the temperatures are much cooler. If you are an adrenaline seeker, midday is when the atmosphere on the bridge is most electric as jumpers take the plunge. Late afternoon is also spectacular for sunset views over the gorge. For those interested in history over heights, the guided Bridge Tours usually have scheduled departures at 10:00 AM and 2:30 PM, providing an opportunity to walk on the catwalks directly beneath the main bridge deck.
