Honkawa Peace Museum is a small but powerful memorial located within the former Honkawa Elementary School building, one of the closest schools to the atomic blast site in 1945. The museum preserves classrooms, photographs, and belongings of students affected by the bombing, offering a very personal and intimate perspective on Hiroshima’s history. It is quieter and less crowded than the main Peace Memorial Museum, giving visitors time to reflect.

From Hiroshima Station, take the Hiroshima Electric Railway streetcar toward Genbaku Dome-mae. From the stop, walk west along the river for around 5 minutes. The museum is located beside Honkawa Elementary School and is clearly marked.
Late morning or early afternoon works well, especially if you plan to visit alongside the Atomic Bomb Dome and Peace Memorial Park. Weekdays are quieter, allowing more time to move through the exhibits without crowds.
