The Ngong Hills are open daily, and entry fees are approximately $2 for Kenyan residents and $5 for non-residents. A hike across the seven hills can take 4-5 hours, depending on your pace and route. The area has picnic spots and rest areas for visitors who want to relax while enjoying the scenery.
Wear sturdy hiking shoes and carry a jacket, as the weather can change quickly, and it tends to be windy at the summit. Bring plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, and a hat for sun protection. Guides are available for hire at the entrance for those unfamiliar with the terrain, and it’s advisable to hike in groups for safety.
Ngong Hills is about 25 kilometers from Nairobi’s city center, accessible by private car, taxi, or ride-hailing apps. Public transport options include matatus heading to Ngong town, from where you can take a short taxi ride to the starting point.
The best time to visit is during the dry seasons (January-February and June-October) for clear skies and better trail conditions. Early morning is ideal for cooler weather and fewer crowds, making the hike more enjoyable.
