The Prague Botanical Garden in the quiet Troja district is one of Prague’s most peaceful green escapes. Covering nearly 30 hectares, it offers a blend of outdoor gardens, themed plant collections and wooded paths. Its star attraction is the Fata Morgana tropical greenhouse, where you can walk through warm, humid jungles even in winter. The garden is ideal for travellers looking to relax, enjoy nature or take a scenic break from the historic city centre.
The garden includes outdoor exhibitions, a Japanese garden, St. Claire’s Vineyard and the long, modern Fata Morgana greenhouse. Facilities include rest areas, a café and seasonal exhibitions. Tickets can be purchased on-site or as e-tickets, with reduced prices for children, students and seniors. Family tickets are available, and outdoor areas are dog-friendly if pets remain leashed.
The Fata Morgana greenhouse is closed every Monday for maintenance, so plan your visit accordingly. Dogs are allowed only outdoors, not inside the greenhouse. Parking is available but unguarded, so avoid leaving valuables in your car. The garden is spacious, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Guided tours must be booked in advance if you prefer a more informative visit.
From central Prague, take metro line C to Nádraží Holešovice or Kobylisy, then continue by bus toward Troja. Several bus lines stop near the garden’s entrances. During warmer seasons, you can also reach Troja by a scenic boat ride along the Vltava River. Travelling by car is possible, though parking space may fill during weekends.
Outdoor areas are typically open from morning to early evening, with extended hours in spring and summer. Winter hours are shorter. The best time to visit is late spring or early autumn, when the gardens are at their most colourful. For a quieter experience, arrive early in the morning or later in the afternoon.
