Archangel Michael’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral

The cathedral serves Aswan’s Coptic community and hosts regular masses, religious festivals, and community events. It features a spacious nave, traditional iconostasis, and beautiful murals depicting scenes from the Bible and the lives of saints. While not an ancient site, it is culturally important and showcases contemporary Egyptian Christian art and architecture. There is no entrance fee, but donations are appreciated.

Dress modestly when visiting, covering shoulders and knees. The cathedral is open to visitors outside prayer times, though schedules may vary slightly on Sundays and feast days. Photography is generally allowed, but avoid flash during services. The atmosphere is quiet and respectful, so speak softly and avoid disrupting worshippers. Allow 20–40 minutes to explore the interior comfortably.

The cathedral is located in central Aswan, not far from the Corniche. Taxis and tuk-tuks can easily take you there, and the street is well known by local drivers. If you’re staying downtown, you can reach it with a short walk, passing through local neighborhoods and small shops along the way.
