Cleopatra Beach

Cleopatra Beach, found on Sedir (Cleopatra) Island in the Gulf of Gökova, is one of the most magical beaches you can reach from Marmaris. What makes it truly special is its sand: instead of ordinary grains, the beach is covered with tiny, perfectly round shell-based pearls. Legend has it that Mark Antony had this sand brought all the way from Egypt for Cleopatra, giving the spot a royal touch. The water around the beach is crystal clear and shallow, with calm turquoise hues that are ideal for swimming or just floating peacefully. Surrounding the shore, you’ll also see ruins of an ancient city — olive trees, pine groves, and rocky headlands add to the island’s timeless charm.

Alles über Cleopatra Beach

Was Sie erwartet

The beach lies on Sedir Island, an archaeological and natural reserve under the Turkish Ministry of Culture. Entry requires a ticket — visitors with a Museum Card (MüzeKart) often get a discount. There are limited facilities: changing cabins, toilets, and a small café operate during peak season. Sun loungers are available, but you cannot bring your own towels or umbrellas onto the sand due to the delicate nature of the grains. Walking freely on the sand is restricted and monitored to preserve its unique structure. The island also features ancient remains like city walls, a theatre, and temple foundations.

Warum diese Tour buchen

Because the sand is quite fragile and rare, strict rules apply: it’s forbidden to collect sand, walk barefoot freely across it, or lie directly on it with a towel — the sand clings to fabrics. The beach is roped off in several places, so you can only access the water from designated spots. Entrance costs can be significant (recently around 300 TL for some visitors)  though Museum Card holders enjoy reduced rates. Sunbeds may be limited in number, and the café can become busy in summer. Also, while swimming is generally safe, the beach can become crowded in the high season, so plan accordingly.

Die richtige Tour auswählen

From Marmaris, your trip to Cleopatra Beach typically begins with a short drive around 25–30 minutes  to Çamlı Village. From Çamlı’s pier, small boats ferry visitors across to Sedir Island. Many day-tour operators offer combo trips that include hotel pickup, transport to Çamlı, the boat ride, and entrance to the beach. On the island, a gentle walk through olive groves and pine trees brings you to Cleopatra Beach. Boats tend to run more frequently in summer, so tours are the most practical and hassle-free way for holidaymakers to visit.

Wissenswertes vor der Abreise

The ideal months to visit Cleopatra Beach are from May through October, when the weather is warm, the sea is calm, and boat services are frequent. Try to aim for a morning arrival boats often leave early, and arriving before mid-day helps you avoid both the hottest sun and the busiest crowds. In high season, the beach and pier can fill up quickly, so early is better both for comfort and for getting a good spot on the water.
