The Old Town surrounds Marmaris Castle and stretches down toward the marina. It’s compact and pedestrian-friendly, with cobblestone paths and small courtyards. Many houses date back to Ottoman times, giving the area an authentic character. Visitors usually spend an hour or two wandering the streets, browsing local shops, and enjoying the peaceful ambience.
Wear comfortable shoes, as the narrow lanes and steps can be uneven. The area is shaded in parts, making it a pleasant place to explore even on hot days. Cafés and small artisan shops may have limited hours, especially outside peak season. Bring a camera this is one of the most photogenic spots in Marmaris.
The Old Town is within walking distance of almost anywhere in central Marmaris. If you're staying further away, take a dolmuş to the marina or city center and stroll up toward the castle. Taxis can drop you close to the entrance, though exploring must be done on foot.
Late afternoon and early evening are ideal, offering soft light and a relaxed mood. Nights are atmospheric as the streets glow with warm lighting. Mornings are quieter, perfect for peaceful strolls and photography. Summer evenings can get busier but still retain a charming feel.
