The castle is located in Ortahisar town, easily accessible from Göreme, Ürgüp, or Avanos. It is open daily to visitors, with a small entrance fee. Climbing to the top requires walking up a series of stone steps, but the effort is rewarded with spectacular views. The castle is also surrounded by traditional stone houses and local cafés, making it easy to spend extra time in the area.
Wear sturdy shoes, as the stairs and rock surfaces can be uneven. Bring water, especially in summer, and use sunscreen and a hat. Photography is allowed and highly recommended, particularly from the top for capturing Ortahisar’s townscape and nearby valleys. Early mornings and late afternoons provide softer lighting and fewer crowds.
Ortahisar Castle is reachable by car, taxi, or organized tour from Göreme, Ürgüp, or Avanos in about 10–20 minutes. Parking is available near the castle. Walking from the town center is possible, as the castle sits in the middle of Ortahisar.
The best times to visit are early morning or late afternoon when temperatures are cooler and the light enhances photography. Sunset provides particularly dramatic views over the valleys, making it a favorite time for visitors.
