Revelin Fortress

Revelin Fortress is one of Dubrovnik’s most imposing fortifications, strategically positioned at the eastern entrance to the Old Town, near Ploče Gate. Built in the 16th century during a time of increasing threats from the Ottoman Empire, Revelin was designed to strengthen Dubrovnik’s defenses. Its name derives from the Italian word rivelino, meaning an external fortification. Unlike other medieval forts, Revelin has a unique angular design to withstand cannon fire. Today, the fortress serves as a cultural venue, hosting exhibitions, concerts, and events, including performances during the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.
