From Amman, Wadi Rum is about 4 hours by car or taxi. The easiest way to reach the desert is by hiring a private car or booking a guided tour. If you’re on a budget, take the JETT bus or a shared taxi to Aqaba, then continue to Wadi Rum by local taxi. From Petra, Wadi Rum is a 2-hour drive, making it a popular stop for travelers heading to or from Petra. The visitor center is the main starting point for all tours, where visitors can park their cars and transfer to jeeps arranged by local Bedouin guides.
The best time to visit Wadi Rum is during spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November) when daytime temperatures are mild, ranging between 20°C and 30°C. Summers can be scorching, with temperatures exceeding 40°C, while winter nights can get very cold, dropping to near freezing. Early morning and late afternoon tours offer the most comfortable conditions, and sunset tours provide breathtaking views of the desert as the light transforms the landscape.
