The day trip begins with a pick up from your hotel or desired pick location in Mombasa island ,North coast or South coast. Drive towards the Mombasa City Center to start off your tour with a visit to the Famous Pembe za ndovu (Elephant Tusks) as the local Swahili call them. They can also be found on the back of the 50 ksh old denomination note. They symbolized Mombasa as the gateway to ivory trade back in the Arab trade era. Your driver- guide will make a stop for a photo session.
Your guide will continue with the guided tour towards the spice market, then walk down the winding narrow historical streets of the old town known as ''Kibokoni'' by the locals. As the tour continues you will be touring through old colonial houses and mosques..You will also pass by the Mombasa Club, Africa Hotel, Mandhry Mosque, Government Square, and the Old Port.Lastly you will enter the famous Fort Jesus museum which was designed by Italian Giovanni Battista and was built between 1593 and 1596 by the order of king Philip of Portugal to guard the old port of Mombasa. There you can learn all about the local culture, the history of Mombasa and the coastal region as a whole.
In afternoon, visit Haller Park (formerly Bamburi Nature Trail) which is located South of the Bamburi cement plant along the Mombasa /Malindi highway. A product of the company's efforts, since 1971, to convert barren landscape of disused limestone quarries into vibrant and diverse ecosystem of forest, grasslands and ponds. Currently, Haller Park plays host to a variety of wildlife including hippos, giraffes, buffalos, and antelopes as well as smaller mammals and birds.
