Golden Mount, or Wat Saket, is one of Bangkok’s most iconic temples, known for its stunning panoramic views and serene atmosphere. Perched atop an artificial hill, the temple features a glittering golden chedi (stupa) that houses sacred Buddhist relics. Visitors must climb a winding staircase of 344 steps, flanked by lush greenery, small waterfalls, and statues, to reach the summit. At the top, you’ll find the peaceful sanctuary of the chedi and breathtaking views of Bangkok's old city.

Wat Saket is located near Ratchadamnoen Avenue in Bangkok's old city. The temple is open daily, typically from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with a modest entry fee. It is an active place of worship, so visitors are encouraged to dress respectfully. The climb is manageable for most fitness levels, with plenty of shaded spots to rest along the way.
Wear comfortable shoes for the climb and bring water to stay hydrated, especially on hot days. A small donation can be made for a wishing bell or incense stick at the summit. Photography is welcome, but avoid disrupting worshippers. Visit during November for the annual temple fair, featuring vibrant decorations and festivities.
Golden Mount is accessible by taxi, tuk-tuk, or public transport. The nearest MRT station is Sam Yot, from which you can take a short taxi or tuk-tuk ride. Alternatively, take a boat ride along Khlong Saen Saep to Phan Fa Lilat Pier, which is a short walk from the temple.
Visit early in the morning or late afternoon for cooler weather and fewer crowds. The morning light offers excellent photo opportunities, while the late afternoon provides a serene atmosphere for reflection. Avoid midday visits during summer due to the heat.
