The Virgin Mary's House

The Virgin Mary’s House, or Meryem Ana Evi, is a quiet and sacred stone chapel perched on Bülbül Mountain just outside Selçuk. Believed by many to be the final home of Mary, mother of Jesus, the site exudes peace and reflection. Inside, the modest two-room structure retains a simple interior, while outside a courtyard, olive trees, and a wishing wall create a serene spiritual atmosphere. Pilgrims and tourists alike come here for prayer, contemplation, or simply to soak in the calm Aegean views.

Was Sie erwartet

This small shrine is considered a place of worship and pilgrimage by Christians and Muslims alike. It sits about 9 km east of Selçuk on the slopes of the mountain. The house was restored after being identified in the 19th century, inspired by visions of the Catholic nun Anna Katharina Emmerich. The structure features a cross-shaped plan, two chambers, and a fireplace. A water fountain nearby is thought by many to have healing properties.

Warum diese Tour buchen

Dress modestly out of respect, as this is a holy site. The path up includes steps and gentle slopes, so wear comfortable shoes. Bring water, especially in summer, because shaded areas are limited. Take a camera — the view over Ephesus, the olive groves, and the mountain is stunning. Quiet moments are common here, so be prepared for a reflective and peaceful visit rather than a crowded tourist stop.
