The market operates in a historic building dating back to the early 20th century, divided into several long stone halls filled with vendors. It opens Monday to Saturday in the morning, with most activity happening between 09:00 and 14:00. In addition to traditional stalls, one hall functions as a small food court where chefs prepare dishes using ingredients purchased fresh from the market. It’s a convenient, atmospheric spot to enjoy Galician cuisine without leaving the building.

Bring cash, as not all vendors accept cards. Arriving hungry is recommended—many stalls allow you to taste cheeses, cured meats, and pastries, and the food hall offers ready-made meals. Thursdays and Saturdays are the busiest days when farmers from nearby villages come to sell their produce. Mid-mornings can be crowded, so arrive early for more space to wander. As it’s an active market, expect lively interactions, vibrant smells, and plenty of local character.

The market sits in Santiago’s historic center on Rúa das Ameás, just a short walk from the cathedral and the main squares. Since the old town is largely pedestrian-only, walking is the easiest way to reach it. Most hotels in the center are within a 10-minute walk, and public buses stop near the perimeter of the old town if you’re coming from farther away.
