Monte Igueldo

Monte Igueldo rises to around 181 meters above sea level and dominates San Sebastián’s skyline. The summit features a small amusement park dating back to 1912, with attractions like a Swiss Mountain roller coaster, bumper cars, and a funhouse. The Torreón de Igueldo, formerly a lighthouse, now serves as a panoramic terrace and exhibition space. Walking paths around the hill allow visitors to enjoy nature and explore megalithic archaeological sites on the slopes, including ancient tombs and stone monuments.

The funicular is part of the experience, carrying visitors up the steep cliff in a few minutes. Tickets for the funicular usually include access to the park, though rides inside the park cost extra. Summer weekends can be busy, so early arrival is recommended. Some attractions close during rainy weather, so checking the forecast beforehand is wise. Comfortable shoes and water are advised, especially if you plan to explore the surrounding natural and archaeological areas.

The most scenic way to reach Monte Igueldo is by the historic funicular, with its lower station near Ondarreta Beach. Alternatively, visitors can drive or take a bus up the hill, though access routes are limited. Once at the summit, the amusement park, viewpoints, and Torreón are all within easy walking distance, making the area very visitor-friendly.
