Located about 26 km southwest of Rhodes Town, Butterfly Valley is open to visitors from spring to autumn. There’s a small entrance fee, which helps with conservation efforts. The valley has well-maintained paths, making it accessible for most fitness levels. However, some sections involve uphill walks, so comfortable footwear is recommended. There are also small cafes nearby to enjoy refreshments after exploring.
To protect the butterflies, avoid loud noises or touching them, as they are sensitive to disturbances. Bring plenty of water, especially in summer, as the valley can be humid. Insect repellent is also a good idea for personal comfort. If you’re traveling with children, note that strollers may not be practical due to uneven paths.
Butterfly Valley is easily accessible by car, taxi, or bus from Rhodes Town. Buses run regularly during the tourist season and are an affordable option. If you’re staying in a resort, many hotels offer organized excursions. For those driving, parking is available near the entrance.
The best time to visit Butterfly Valley is between June and September when the Jersey tiger moths are most active. Early mornings or late afternoons are ideal for a quieter experience and cooler temperatures. Spring offers lush greenery, but butterflies are less prominent during this time.
