Iotape Ancient Port City

Iotape, also known as Aytap, is a small but beautifully preserved ancient port city located on a rocky cove east of Alanya. Named after Queen Iotape, the wife of King Antiochus IV of Commagene, this seaside site dates back to the 1st century CE and offers a fascinating glimpse into the region’s Roman past. The ruins spread between the shoreline and a small hill, including remains of city walls, a necropolis, temples, baths, cisterns and a harbour once bustling with trade. The turquoise water and coastal cliffs make this site as picturesque as it is historic.

Was Sie erwartet

Iotape Ancient Port City lies about 33 kilometres east of Alanya, within Antalya Province. It is an open-air archaeological site with no formal entrance gate or ticket system, and visitors are free to explore the ruins and the nearby beach area. The ancient city once functioned as both a trading hub and a residential settlement, featuring inscriptions, Roman baths, and mosaic-lined structures that remain visible today. The combination of sea views, history and quiet atmosphere makes it ideal for a short, scenic stop.

Warum diese Tour buchen

Because Iotape is not a commercialised tourist site, facilities are minimal. Bring water, sunscreen, and good walking shoes, as the terrain is uneven with some rocky and overgrown areas. There are no restrooms or cafés within the ruins, though small roadside stops can be found nearby. Swimming is allowed in the adjacent cove, which adds to the site’s charm—so pack swimwear if you’d like a refreshing dip after exploring.
