From Kemer: Olympos Cable Car Ride to Tahtali Mountain
Adventures
Day Trips
If you’re holidaying in Kemer and craving a change of scene from the coastline, Tahtalı Mountain offers a breathtaking contrast: soaring above the Mediterranean sea at a height of 2,365 metres, this majestic peak belongs to the Beydağları National Park and literally takes you “sea to sky.” From its summit you can look down on pine-forested slopes and out across glittering blue waters, a panorama few drive-in beach towns can rival. With the modern cable-car ride thrusting you up through the clouds in about 15 minutes, it’s an unforgettable way to experience nature in the region without a long hike.

Tahtalı Mountain is located just inland from the resort town of Kemer, on Türkiye’s southern coast. It stands as the highest point in the immediate region reachable from the sea. A major highlight is the cable-car system (the Olympos Teleferik) which links a base station in the foothills to a summit station at 2,365 metres above sea level. The ride takes you from about 726 metres elevation up to the peak over a 4,350-metre span in roughly 10-15 minutes. At the summit you’ll find a panoramic deck, restaurants and viewing terraces. It’s ideal for those who want mountain views with minimal effort.
There are a few practical tips to ensure your visit goes smoothly. First, remember that even in summer the summit is much cooler than the coast so a warm jacket or layer is wise. Comfortable shoes are also recommended, particularly if you plan to wander around the top area or start a short trail. The weather can change quickly at altitude, so sunglasses, a hat and water are always good. If you’re visiting via organised tours, check times and what’s included (e.g., cable-car ticket, transfers). Finally, expect busier periods during midday and sunset hours arriving early may give you calmer views and better photo opportunities.
From Kemer you can reach Tahtalı Mountain fairly easily. Most visitors take a short drive (or tour transfer) through the foothills and forested roads to the base station of the cable car. If staying in Kemer or nearby resort villages, many hotels offer excursions or you can catch a dolmuş/minibus to the cable-car station area. Once you arrive at the base, you’ll board the cable car up to the summit. The vehicle transport + cable-car combination makes the climb convenient, leaving you to simply enjoy the views rather than fight rough terrain.
The best time for a visit is in the morning or late afternoon. Morning visits mean cooler air, clearer skies and fewer crowds, while late afternoon (especially nearing sunset) gives dramatic light and a thrilling atmosphere as you watch shadows lengthen over the sea and mountains. In summer the base is warm but the summit can feel like late spring or even autumn so aim for comfortable hours. If you plan to hike from the summit or linger at the top café, allow at least 2–3 hours. Check the cable-car’s opening hours for the season you are there, as they can vary.
