The War Remnants Museum is located at 28 Vo Van Tan, in District 3 of Ho Chi Minh City, making it easily accessible for visitors exploring the city. It is open daily from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, including public holidays, allowing for flexible planning. Admission is 40,000 VND per adult (approximately $1.60 USD), offering a highly affordable cultural experience. Most visitors spend between one to two hours at the museum. Exhibits are presented in Vietnamese and English, with some sections also available in French, making the content accessible to international travelers. The museum features three floors of powerful photojournalism, wartime relics, and reconstructed prison cells, while the outdoor courtyard displays tanks, helicopters, and other military equipment used during the Vietnam War.
Some exhibits, especially photographs in the Agent Orange and war crime galleries, are graphic and emotionally intense. It’s recommended to be cautious if you're traveling with young children. Dress respectfully, as this is a solemn place. The museum is wheelchair accessible, though some areas can get crowded. Photography is allowed, but flash and tripods may be restricted. Bring water, as there’s limited refreshment options inside.
The museum is centrally located and easily accessible by foot, taxi, or motorbike from District 1. A Grab (ride-hailing app) ride from popular areas like Ben Thanh Market or Nguyen Hue Walking Street takes about 5–10 minutes. Bus #14 also stops nearby. There’s a paid parking area for motorbikes right in front of the museum. Consider walking if you're staying downtown — it’s a scenic stroll past historical buildings and leafy streets.
To avoid crowds and the midday heat, visit early in the morning right when it opens at 7:30 AM. Weekdays are generally quieter than weekends. Late afternoons can also be a good time, but allow at least an hour and a half before closing. The museum is open year-round, including public holidays, but may be busier during peak tourist seasons (December–April). Check the weather before going — there’s limited shelter in the outdoor display areas.
