Myra Ancient City

Located near the modern town of Demre, Myra Ancient City is about 100 kilometers from Kalkan. Entry fees are approximately 300 Turkish Lira, and the site is open year-round. Facilities such as restrooms and small snack kiosks are available at the entrance. The main highlights include the Lycian rock tombs, the Roman theater, and the nearby Church of Saint Nicholas. Make sure to bring cash, as some smaller shops and stalls nearby may not accept cards.

Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the terrain can be uneven, especially around the tombs. Bring water, sunscreen, and a hat since the area is often sunny, with little shade. Guided tours can enhance your visit by providing detailed historical context about the Lycian civilization. Photography is allowed, so don’t forget your camera or smartphone to capture the breathtaking views and ancient structures.

From Kalkan, Myra Ancient City is about a two-hour drive by car or minibus (dolmuş). Renting a car offers the flexibility to stop at scenic spots along the way. Alternatively, you can book a private transfer or join an organized tour from Kalkan. If using public transport, buses run to Demre from Kalkan, followed by a short taxi ride to the site.
