La Orotava Valley

La Orotava Valley stretches from the Atlantic coast to the foothills of Teide National Park, covering a vast area of green hills and fertile land. The valley enjoys a mild climate year-round, making it ideal for hiking, sightseeing, and nature exploration. The town of La Orotava is one of the oldest settlements in Tenerife, famous for its well-preserved mansions, cobbled streets, and vibrant local culture. Highlights include the Casa de los Balcones, the botanical gardens, and the stunning views from Humboldt’s Viewpoint.

La Orotava sits at a higher altitude than the coastal areas, so temperatures can be cooler. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, as the town has steep streets. If visiting during June, don’t miss the Corpus Christi celebrations, where colorful flower carpets decorate the streets. Many traditional restaurants in the area serve local Canarian dishes, including "papas arrugadas" (wrinkled potatoes) with mojo sauce.

La Orotava is easily accessible from major tourist areas. By car, it takes about 30 minutes from Puerto de la Cruz via the TF-21 or around an hour from the south of Tenerife via the TF-1. Public buses, such as Titsa bus 101 and 108, connect La Orotava with Santa Cruz and other parts of the island. Many guided tours include La Orotava as part of a cultural or nature excursion.
