Son Tra Mountain is free to explore and open year-round. Visitors can hike or drive along the mountain’s winding roads, which are well-maintained and suitable for motorbikes or cars. Along the way, you’ll find lookout points, beaches, and shaded rest stops. Facilities are limited in some areas, so it’s advisable to bring water, snacks, and other essentials.
Son Tra Mountain is vast, so plan your itinerary based on your interests. Highlights include the Ban Co Peak, offering a 360-degree view of Da Nang, and the Son Tra Radar Station, nicknamed the “Indochina Pineapple,” due to its shape. Watch for wildlife, including monkeys and birds, but avoid feeding them to preserve the ecosystem. Wear sturdy footwear for hiking trails and bring sunscreen, insect repellent, and a hat to stay comfortable.
Son Tra Mountain is located just 10 kilometers from Da Nang city center and is easily accessible by motorbike, car, or taxi. Ride-hailing apps like Grab are also convenient. The drive takes approximately 20-30 minutes and offers stunning coastal views along the way. If you’re exploring independently, follow signs leading to Linh Ung Pagoda, as it serves as the gateway to many of the mountain’s attractions.
The best time to visit Son Tra Mountain is during the dry season (March to September) when the weather is clear and the roads are safe for driving or hiking. Early mornings and late afternoons are ideal for cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and stunning sunrise or sunset views. Avoid visiting during the rainy season (October to February), as slippery roads can be hazardous.
