Guided Tours
Volubilis is open to visitors daily, typically from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM. The entrance fee is around 70 MAD, with an additional fee if you hire a local guide. While self-guided exploration is an option, guided tours provide valuable insights into the historical and cultural significance of the site. The ruins cover a large area, so be prepared for a fair amount of walking.
Bring water, sunscreen, and a hat, as there is limited shade at the site. Comfortable walking shoes are essential, given the uneven terrain. While the ruins are the main attraction, don’t miss the chance to admire the detailed mosaics that have survived for centuries. Early morning or late afternoon visits are best for avoiding crowds and the midday heat.
From Fez, Volubilis is about 90 kilometers (56 miles) away and can be reached in approximately 1.5 hours by car. You can rent a car, join a guided tour, or take a grand taxi. Public transportation to the site is limited, so planning ahead is essential.
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best seasons to visit, offering mild weather and lush surroundings. Early mornings provide cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, making your visit more enjoyable. Visiting during golden hour adds an atmospheric charm to the ruins.
